In an unprecedented move, Brendan Shanahan has suspended referees Marc Joannette and Brad Watson for gross incompetence as a result of their terrible officiating in Game 3 of the playoff series between the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Late in the second period, Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk was called for Delay of Game for clearing the puck over the glass. The on-ice officials failed to spot that the puck was actually deflected by Flyers forward Matt Read.   Moments later, with the Flyer on the ensuing power play, Brayden Schenn was called for a questionable goaltender interference penalty.

Watson and Joannette were immediately removed from the game following the conclusion of the second period; their hearing is expected to be tomorrow with Shanahan.

The remainder of the game will be officiated by a blind ass and a giraffe.
