In an attempt to fill the void at forward left by Erik Cole (pictured), who signed with Montreal and Corey Stillman (free agent), Carolina has signed former Leafs 4th round draft pick Alexei Ponikarovsky to a 1-year $1.5M dollar deal and  former Panthers 1st round draft pick Anthony Stewart to a 2-year $1.8M dollar contract.

Ponikarovsky who averages just over a point per game in his ten NHL season will be reunited with former coach Paul Maurice while Stewart is coming off his first complete season scoring 14 goals and notching 25 assists in Atlanta.
